There are many reasons why LOCTITE® thread sealants are a better, more efficient alternative to thread tape and traditional sealants. Here are just a few:
- Solvent-based sealing compounds can shrink during cure as solvents evaporate. Fittings must be re-torqued to minimize voids. The solvents used are volatile and flammable with poor health and safety. Containers left open for extended periods will cause the product to thicken and harden until they eventually become unusable.
- PTFE tape lubricates in off direction, allowing fittings to loosen under dynamic loads and resulting in loss of clamping force and leakage. Dynamic loads may accelerate creep, causing leakage over time. The lubricating effect of PTFE frequently results in over-tightening of pipes and fluid fittings, adding stress or causing breakage of parts. Application requires good professional skills to avoid stressing fittings or castings and avoid shreds which can contaminate hydraulic systems.
